A Mountain Moment She’ll Never Forget
When your friend texts you months in advance asking for help with a proposal, you say yes. When he tells you she has no clue, you smile. When it all goes down in the middle of a snowy, stunning mountain pass, you cry (or at least I almost did). Stephen pulled off the sweetest surprise proposal for Cayla at Hatcher Pass, and I had the absolute honor of capturing every second of it.
As we hiked up into the mountains of Hatcher Pass, clouds hung low over the peaks, wrapping the whole scene in a soft stillness. The snow still clung to the higher ridges, a beautiful contrast to the brown grass beginning to poke through beneath our feet. It was Cayla’s very first time there, and she had no idea that this rugged, breathtaking place was about to become the backdrop to one of the most memorable moments of her life.
When Stephen dropped to one knee and she turned around, she gasped, hands instantly flying to her face. It was pure joy. No hesitation. Just that beautiful, wide-eyed excitement every photographer hopes to capture. And I got to witness it all unfold with mountains on every side and the kind of love that makes you forget about the cold.
After the proposal, we wandered around for a short engagement session. Cayla was giddy and glowing, and Stephen couldn’t stop smiling. They were effortlessly sweet with each other, and every photo felt like a celebration. They were goofy, in love, and completely present in the moment.
This shoot was extra special for me because I’ve known Stephen for years. He’s one of those loyal, thoughtful guys who makes everyone feel safe and seen. When he introduced me to Cayla after they started dating, I immediately saw how perfectly they fit. Her gentle kindness balances his quiet strength, and together they bring out the best in each other. Being invited into this moment was an honor I won’t forget.
Some love stories feel like they’ve always been meant to be, and this was one of them.
